About this Course

Researcher over the last 20 years or so has shown that stimulating compassion brain states have profound impacts on our brains and relationships The workshop provides participants with the latest science and application of compassion training. Although compassion is sometimes defined in different ways it actually means being sensitive and concerned with suffering and distress and then becoming committed to work out courageous and wise ways to deal with it, the compassion we need depends upon the situations we face , for example a firefighter needs courage and wisdom for firefighting skills would not be useful for a therapist or a parent ! Leadership is the same compassion depends upon the nature of leadership.

Most of this acknowledge that we live in stressful times that can take a toll on us physically and emotionally. Sometimes we get caught up in being overly self-critical or frustrated and disappointed, or plain exhausted. What compassion training helps us to do is to begin to identify the sources of our stress and emotional difficulty, how these are linked partly to how the brain evolved and functions and the social contexts we are in. From this wed can learn to become more mindful and aware of mental patterns that are not always helpful and switch to helpful one . Compassion training helps us to develop patterns of thinking feeling and acting which produce real physiological change in the body and the brain and help us deal with the difficulties of life. You will discover that compassion is not some weakness or just being nice to yourself or other but also actually involves genuine courage and commitment to do what is helpful rather than harmful. We need different types of compassion for different situations.

You will learn how to apply compassion science to real-world challenges, including understanding how organisations can become threat-driven systems, how cultures of competition or perfectionism can undermine wellbeing, and how compassionate leadership can create psychological safety and resilience.

By the end of the day, participants will be able to:

Understand the three-circle model (threat, drive, soothing) in organisational contexts

Explore principles of compassionate leadership and psychologically safe cultures
