The Deity Practice of Green Tara - Transforming Fear and Anxiety into Wakefulness and Proactivity
Building on his series of talks on deity practices last year, Choden will revisit the practice of Green Tara and show how it can deepen and enrich the compassionate image practice that is an integral part of CFT.
Tara is a feminine deity that was widely revered and practiced in Tibet. The term ‘deity’ refers to an archetypal template within ourselves that can transform blocked or afflicted emotions into the awakened energies of wisdom and compassion. They have an alchemical function. Expressed in the language of neuroscience, deity practices work on different processing systems in the brain. They generate images that stimulate different relational patterns in the brain.
Tara has 21 aspects that focus on different emotional afflictions and elicit corresponding qualities. In the session Choden will focus on certain specific manifestations of Tara that can support us in various ways, namely: White Tara that pacifies feelings of disturbance and agitation and brings balance and stability; Yellow Tara that soothes feelings of depletion and burn out and engenders vitality and inner abundance; Red Tara that engages with feelings of powerlessness and frustration and fosters inner strength and courage; and Green Tara that calms feelings of fear and anxiety and awakens qualities of vitality, being proactive and effective.
The session will be creative, practice focused and engaged. We will work with the power of mandala, imagery, mantra (sacred chant) and compassionate motivation. It will be a way of helping people broaden their understanding of compassionate imagery and how it can be used both for yourselves and your clients.
