29th April 2026 via Zoom - 17.00 to 18.30
This webinar is offered on a donation basis.
In this webinar, Dr Ken Goss will introduce participants to his new book, the eating well workbook: addressing overeating using your compassionate mind (publication date 30th October 2025).
As well as hearing a presentation by the author, webinar participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and to interact with some of the books key ideas and themes.
The book is designed for people who struggle with overeating, including people have a formal diagnosis of binge eating disorder or complex obesity. It is broken into three sections. The first section explores the reasons we have evolved to overeat and how modern culture and access to energy dense foods, as well as the prevalence of fat shaming and dieting have made our relationship with our bodies and eating difficult.
The second section of the book outlines how a compassionate mind approach may help us address these issues and teaches readers to develop their compassionate mind to help motivate them towards changing eating behaviour and address issues such as shame and self-criticism that may complicate their relationship with food and eating.
The final section of the book outlines a structured approach to using the compassionate mind to addressing overeating, to help readers work towards resolving this issue in the long term and develop a more compassionate and nurturing relationship with their body.
Dr Goss will outline the key themes from each of the sections and discuss how the book can be used as guided self-help using the clinician’s guide to using the book (developed by Dr Lesley Armitage) or as a group-based online program (developed by Dr Christiana Marques), or as individual therapy Participants will be encouraged to reflect on how they might use this book their clinical work.
Title: The eating well workbook: Addressing overeating using your compassionate mind (Robinson, 2025)
Author: Dr Ken Goss
Description
Learn to stop overeating for good and discover your own healthy weight and eating habits
This compassionate, therapeutic workbook explores the problems created by having ready access to high fat foods designed to taste good. Because we evolved in conditions of relative scarcity, we have few natural food inhibitors and so most diet books try to encourage people to limit their eating using strict rules which have to be constantly worked at.
However, this can lead to self-criticism which can undermine efforts at self-control. As a result, our relationship with eating can be complex, multifaceted and problematic.
USING THIS WORKBOOK, YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO:
· Understand and work with your urges and passion for food
· Pay attention to your biological and emotional needs
· Have a healthier and happier relationship with food and your body
If you have tried diets and found that they don't work, The Eating Well Workbook is for you.
THE COMPASSIONATE MIND APPROACH
The self-help books in this series are based on compassion focused therapy (CFT, developed by series editor Prof Paul Gilbert OBE). This brings together an understanding of how our mind can cause us difficulties but also provides us with a powerful solution in the shape of mindfulness and compassion. It teaches ways to stimulate the part of the brain connected with kindness, warmth, compassion and safeness, and to calm the part that makes us feel anxious, angry, sad or depressed.
