Coping with with Endometriosis – Bringing Compassion to Pain, Shame and Uncertainty
Join Dr Kirsty Harris, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and author, for an insightful webinar exploring the psychological impact of living with endometriosis. Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. Symptoms can include heavy bleeding, inflammation, severe pain, bowel and bladder difficulties and fatigue.
Endometriosis affects around 1 in 10 women and those assigned female at birth in the UK, yet the emotional and psychological impact of living the condition is often overlooked. With an average diagnosis time of eight years—and much longer for many—individuals are frequently left navigating pain, uncertainty, and distress without adequate support.
Drawing on both her professional expertise and her personal experience of living with endometriosis, Kirsty shares how she learnt to understanding and responding to the condition using Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
About the Book
This book is part of the "Coping with" Series produced by the Association of Clinical Psychologists. It is a self-help guide that brings together lived experience and clinical expertise.
While there is increasing awareness of the physical aspects of endometriosis, resources addressing the psychological impact remain limited. This book aims to fill that gap—helping readers understand their experiences, manage emotional distress, and develop a more compassionate and supportive relationship with themselves. Kirsty (the author) describes the book as "the book I needed to read 20 years ago".
Through guided insights and practical strategies, it aims to help individuals move from disconnection and self-criticism toward care, balance, and connection.
